Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

boy.jpg

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah is the rite of passage from child to adult in the Jewish community. This rite of passage signifies coming of age and responsibilities gained by the Jewish individual. At MSJE, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah student is called upon to conduct the service as well as read from their individually assigned Torah portion. MSJE does provide a list of officiators. However, the officiator does not take control of the service. S/he is only there to assist the student if needed.

Within preparing for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the student must have prior Hebrew knowledge.

MSJE will provide students and families with a list of tutors to prepare the student to read their Torah and Haftorah portions. The service will be conducted at a site of your choice. Bar/Bat Mitzvahs are traditionally held on Saturday morning or afternoon. At a meeting during the school year, the date of your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah will be selected.
