Bnai Mitzvah Projects
Noah Salzberg
My name is Noah Salzberg and I am in 7th grade at MSJE. I am about to become a Bar Mitzvah on
December 5, 2009. For my Bar Mitzvah project, I have chosen to help children who are ill and needing care
at Schneider's Children's Medical Center in Israel. They are
a hospital in Israel dedicated to the healthcare of children of all ages, races, religions and nationalities.
Jewish tradition views philanthropy as a righteous deed and it empowers people to make a difference. I chose to
make this my Bar Mitzvah project by helping the hospital and helping the children
in need. There is increasing demand in the hospital and if I can help to make a difference in the
children's stay there and make it more pleasurable, then I will have done a mitzvah. I am asking for donations
of gently used children's books and stuffed animals to send to the children in Israel. New books and stuffed animals
would be fine too. Your help and support is greatly appreciated.
Lexi and Marley Smith
Hello Everyone,
Our names are Lexi and Marley Smith and we are sisters with a mission. We want to encourage all teens from 12 to 18 to avoid smoking at a young age. We have witnessed the harsh reality of how smoking can lead to the horrors of lung cancer. Our grandfather, James B. Smith, who we loved so much, died of lung cancer over a year ago because of smoking at the early age of 15. Even though he stopped at 30 it still made a huge impact on him later on in life.
We are having our Bnot mitzvah soon. Mitzvah is an
act of kindness to another. For our Bnot mitzvah
project, we have designed our own unique t shirts
and tank tops that support the saying "Respect yourself!
Live Smoke Free." We hope by making these shirts kids our age will become aware of the deadly results of smoking. We wish to peer pressure teens into thinking Smoking is not cool. It could make a big difference in the health of the new generation. Many facts show that kids start smoking around age 13 and are more vulnerable
to the addictions of nicotine, because the brain
is still developing. It is also said that kids who
smoke are 5 times more likely to drink alcohol and 13
times more likely to use marijuana. We will be distributing these t shirts, in hope of a 10 dollar donation in which we will be giving to the tobacco free kids campaign. Ironically, our Bnot Mitzvah is in the month of November which happens to be National Lung Cancer awareness month. People say one person can make a difference; we hope that the two of us can persuade many teens as well as adults to be role models for their own families. We want people to realize
that
smoking not only affects your own lungs but the people around you at any age.
Thank you,
Lexi and Marley Smith
